E-bike—one of the most popular means of transportation of our time. Bicycles with an electric motor are now an everyday sight on bike lanes. These bikes, also known as pedelecs, have become a sales hit.
We tell you what you really need to know and how to safely move your bike through traffic.
The coinage pedelec (made up from pedal/electric/cycle) describes the functional principle of almost all e-bikes available today: they provide support in pedaling. Regular pedelecs support up to 25 km/h (15.5 mph) and in legal terms are simply bicycles. S-pedelecs are mopeds and don't reach their limit until 45 km/h (28 mph). To reach that, however, you have to be working really hard.
In this case you need to have an insurance sticker on the bike, have a driver's license and wear a helmet. In everyday language all of these bikes are simply called e-bikes. Also because the actual e-bike with throttle grip instead of pedaling support has nearly ceased to exist.
How much do you invest in a decent bike lock? As a rule of thumb, pay 10% of the cost of the new bike for a lock. High-quality locks are made of rugged materials, thereby providing sufficient protection against theft. ABUS bike locks.
A bike helmet that satisfies the stringent safety requirements for big cities. It provides the wearer with special protection by extending down to cover the area of the temples. Furthermore, the Pedelec 2.0 features an integrated rain hood that you can quickly pull over the helmet when rain starts falling.
The backlight, which is particularly bright and rechargeable, provides additional, passive protection.

Keyed alike Cylinders
One key, any number of locks: YourPlus™ is a solution from ABUS that enables all locks with Plus locking cylinders to be conveniently locked simultaneously. This is useful, for example, for families with multiple locks and for jointly used wheels such as transport wheels.
But keyed-alike cylinders have additional advantages particularly for e-bikes. These often have multiple locks on the wheel: on the battery, the frame lock and the additional lock for the connection. Thanks to YourPlus™, all of these can be operated with a single key.
