The para-athlete knows no boundaries

For Maike Hausberger, there seems to be no sporting limits: In every para-sport that the Trierer native starts, she makes it to the very top. Whether it's para-light athletics, para-triathlon or para-cycling – Maike Hausberger, who was born with spastic paralysis of the left side of her body, collects medals. She only switched to the narrow tyres in 2019, and became world champion in her class in her first start at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in Emmen, the Netherlands. She finished fourth in the time trial. At the 2020 UCI Track World Championships, the 25-year-old took the silver medal in the scratch and bronze in the pursuit. The cheerful young woman wants to encourage those affected. Your advice: "Go your own way, never stop dreaming" Maike Hausberger has her sights firmly set on her goal, the Paralympic Summer Games from 24 August to 5 September 2021 in Tokyo. "Witnessing the Paralympics, regardless of performance, is the greatest gift we athletes can give ourselves," she says. And that is why she gives her best every day. Her conclusion: "My disability is losing every day in the battle against my will."
